Last fall, our team at VAVA launched our latest Indiegogo campaign for the VAVA Chroma, an ALPD 4.0® triple laser projector. Our R&D team had been working on this project for over a year and we were immensely proud of the product we developed. Still, never in a million years could we foresee the overwhelming responses.
Mission accomplished
Our flexible goal was $3,000,000. Within four hours of funding, we raised over $3 million, completing the mission, and subsequently broke the record for most funds raised in a 24-hour period. We’ve been asking backers what drew them to the Chroma; one backer said:
“I’m very excited to be getting my unit. I think what stands out most is just how large the screen can project. The colors aren’t going to be as good as an OLED TV like the one I have. But for my set up which goes in the bedroom, I love not having to hang up a TV and bulky TV mount in the room. The ability to take out a projector and put it away is a major selling point for me.”
We also sent out Chromas to a few media outlets, hoping their reviews will make the choice easier for potential backers. They received pre-production units: pretty close to the projectors the backers would receive, but the retail version would include some minor tweaks and software improvements. Still, the reviews named us as a viable competitor to some of the big consumer technology brands. Here’s what Slashgear had to say:
“VAVA isn’t a big name in the TV market, having been founded only in 2015, but the Chroma Triple Laser 4K UST Projector can easily put it on the map as a strong competitor to more established brands like Samsung or LG. That triple laser system and ALPD 4.0 definitely perform as advertised, producing bright and vivid images whether in 4K or 1080p. The built-in ones perform admirably for those without dedicated speakers, and the available apps from its own marketplace can take care of the majority of home entertainment needs.”

With over 2,700 backers, our Indiegogo campaign wrapped up back in January 2022 and the Chroma will soon be launched on our online store as well. We’ve raised nearly $7.8 million, making it the most funded campaign in Indiegogo history for the year 2021. Our Facebook Group dedicated to Chroma-related discussion has over 2,600 members. It’s a community full of home theater enthusiasts expressing their excitement for their projector and asking questions and posting reviews before they, like so many others, back the VAVA Chroma. We have also been showcased in the Indiegogo newsletter.
Our team at VAVA is thrilled with the response so far and is excited for the backers to see the cutting-edge technology for themselves. Though we’re proud of this milestone and our success so far, we can guarantee that we have only just started.
