One thing’s for certain, the 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, is expected to feature some of the most exciting nominees in recent memory.

Best Oscar Nominated Movies to Watch on a 4K Laser Projector

There are a handful of big movies that graced theaters throughout 2022 and many of them have been nominated for an Oscar. A few of my favorites were Everything Everywhere All at Once, Top Gun: Maverick, and Avatar: The Way of Water. All three movies were even more fun to watch on a VAVA 4K Laser Projector, which offers you an ultimate home theater experience with adjustable 80”-150” Ultra HD Display, ALPD® Technology, Harman Kardon speakers, and a smart Android TV system.

VAVA Chroma Triple Laser ProjectorNow, those were a few of my favorites, but let’s take a look at some of VAVA’s predictions for the biggest four Academy Awards categories:

  • Best Picture
  • Best Director
  • Best Actor
  • Best Actress

Best Picture

This year’s crop of Best Picture nominations include the following:

  • Everything Everywhere All at Once
  • The Fabelmans
  • The Banshees of Inisherin
  • TÁR
  • Elvis
  • Top Gun: Maverick
  • Avatar: The Way of Water
  • All Quiet on the Western Front
  • Women Talking
  • Babylon
  • One of the first things I noticed about this year’s nominations is that I’ve actually watched a handful of them. In years past, I feel like Oscar nominations have been more obscure and less mainstream. Not the case this year. Leading the nominations is a fun ride of a movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, a sci-fi adventure with wacky twists and turns, leads the pack at the moment with 11 nods. All Quiet on the Western Front, a World War I epic, and The Banshees of Inisherin, a dark comic that explores the bonds of friendship against the backdrop of the Irish civil war. Both received nine nominations.

Best Director

Rounding out the list for top contenders for the Best Director include the following:

  • Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All at Once
  • Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
  • Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin
  • Todd Field, TÁR
  • Edward Berger, All Quiet on the Western Front

This category is often unpredictable and has a history of favoring heavyweights like Steven Spielberg. However, this year there’s a pair of newcomers on the scene that happened to direct one of the leading contenders for Best Picture. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert directed Everything Everywhere All at Once and are expected to put up a decent fight against Spielberg and others directors on the list.

Best Actor

The nominees for Best Actor are as follows:

  • Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin
  • Austin Butler, Elvis
  • Brendan Fraser, The Whale
  • Bill Nighy, Living
  • Paul Mescal, Aftersun

For the first time in a long time, the actors in this category are all first-time nominees for Best Actor. It’s a competitive category, but at the moment Brendan Fraser is a lead contender for his portrayal in The Whale. Austin Butler is also a favorite among critics and audiences as well, so it will be interesting to see how things shake out.

Best Actress

Another traditionally competitive category, the nominees for Best Actress include:

  • Cate Blanchett, TÁR
  • Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once
  • Viola Davis, The Woman King
  • Danielle Deadwyler, Till
  • Ana de Armas, Blonde

Of this list, Michelle Yeoh is leading the pack for her fun performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Cate Blanchett is also at the front of the pack for her performance in TÁR, a performance that some claim is Blanchett’s career-best work.
