When it comes to designing a gender neutral nursery, choosing a color theme is a big part of the process. For the longest time, baby nurseries would fall into two camps – pink for girls, and blue for boys. Trends are changing, though. Parents are branching out and incorporating more gender neutral nursery themes into their design plans, from white and green to gray and other neutral colors.

Why are more parents opting for gender neutral color schemes when designing their baby’s nursery? For starters, expanding out of the traditional blue or pink color schemes allows parents to be more creative in the design process. Experimenting with a wide color palette allows for more personalization and can grow with the child. Learn also Transitioning Your Baby into Their Own Room.

Incorporating gender neutral colors also makes it easier for parents to explore a wider range of nursery themes. From jungle themes and under the sea, to outer space and the beach, there are many trendy, must-try nursery color themes for parents to choose from in 2022.

Select a Color Scheme

One of the first things new parents do when designing their child’s nursery is to choose a color for the walls. Opting for a gender-neutral nursery opens the door for a wide range of color options. From timeless whites and creams to bold greens, maroons, and yellows, there are so many more creative nursery color themes for parents to choose from than just pink or blue.

Personally, I chose to paint my daughter’s nursery a soft green and added pops of pink, yellow, and white in the decor. The result was super cute and even though she’s much older now, her walls are still the same green. We’ve just swapped the nursery decor for mermaids. The same soft green is also used in my son’s room. Instead of pinks, whites, and yellows, we added pops of navy blue and gray to compliment the sports-themed room he requested.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is also making a comeback, and can do wonders for adding a bit of creativity to a space. I like to think of the walls as a blank canvas by keeping the color neutral. That way you can have fun with accessories and decor that reflect the personality of your child.

Accessories and Decor

Another nursery design trend for 2022 is using accessories and other decoration pieces as a way to incorporate color. From baby monitors and hampers to rocking chairs, curtains, and bookshelves, many of these come in an assortment of colors that parents can incorporate into their nursery design. Framed wall art is also a good way to add a burst of color to neutral-colored walls. As an added bonus, wall art, accessories, and other decor are easy to change up over the years as your child grows, making it easy to personalize the room as your child’s interests and personality evolves with age.

Color Matching Baby Monitors

As I said before, accessories like baby monitors are a great way to add a pop of color to a nursery. Back in the day, baby monitors were mostly available solely in white. Simple, basic, but lacking personality. If you’re looking for a colorful baby monitor, look no further than the VAVA 720P Video Baby Monitor.
